CVC stands for Community Veterinary Clinic, and that is exactly what our CVC is: a non-profit veterinary clinic to help animals from our lower-income communities.
So many pet owners in Grabouw, Elgin, Villiersdorp and surrounding areas would like to get the necessary treatment for their beloved pets, but simply cannot afford it.
Because of this, important procedures like sterilisations, vaccinations and parasite prevention (worms, ticks, fleas) are neglected. This results in animals suffering from serious and often fatal diseases that could have been prevented.
The Elgin Valley Community Veterinary Clinic operates from Grabouw Animal Clinic’s private consulting rooms. This means our welfare patients have the benefit of receiving help and treatment from the same qualified vets and trained staff who work at our modern facility.
Similar to the work we do for our Hermanus & Overberg CVC at the Hermanus Animal Hospital, our veterinarians in Grabouw donate their time and services pro bono to this worthy cause, whether it is for important routine treatments and procedures like vaccinations and sterilisations, or the more complicated surgeries and care needed.
Elgin Valley CVC concentrates on the vaccination and sterilisation of animals among disadvantaged communities and farm labourers from Botrivier (Rescued Animal Drive), Grabouw and Elgin (Grabouw Animal Welfare Society) and Villiersdorp. We work closely with and rely heavily upon the two welfare organisations in the area that assist with follow-up and education of the community.
Our veterinarians are happy to donate their time and services. But to operate efficiently, the clinic needs vital medicines, vaccinations, drugs for sedation, and other essentials in stock. To buy all of these, we rely solely on donations, and whatever amount the client can afford to pay, which is mostly very little or nothing at all. The generosity of our community members has been invaluable in helping us to run the clinic. So too has the hard work that staff members at CVC head offices in Pretoria put into fund-raising and applying to companies for help.
Please also help by supporting the invaluable work of Rescued Animal Drive (RAD) by visiting or donating items to sell in their shop; there’s one in Voortrekker Street, Grabouw and in Bot River. Grabouw Animal Welfare Society’s charity shop at the Spar complex is well worth visiting too.
We also support the Kogelberg Biosphere Wildlife Rescue and Training Centre. Their goal is to conserve biodiversity by returning healthy animals to the wild.
If you can support the Elgin Valley Community Veterinary Clinic, please contact us to find out how you can help.
Thank you.
